Timo-Olavi Jalkanen deliberately distances himself from copying the beauty of nature. Instead he transforms images of nature into windows to his own inner spiritual world. The spectators are drawn into the picture space, and they can sense the emotions he experienced at that moment he captured the scene. I described him to be Romantic artist, expressing Caspar David Friedrich way contemporary Finnish landscape . "Modern Post-tech Romantic maybe", he replied. Specifying that his artistic romanticism springs up as a contrast to his decades long, active hitech career (he worked as a computer and microprocessor designer e.g. in Nokia Corporation and was involved with people like Bill Gates). His need to escape from that short cycle time technological life was so strong, that now in his art, man-made objects do not exist; wooden rowboats being an exception. The picture frames can be made of wood he collected from the lake Pyhäjärvi in the photo locations. Broken rowboats, pieces of oars, and sunken boards of old jetties have now got a new life as frames and installations. All his works are unique. There are no copies of them. T-O Jalkanen works and lives in Pispala, suburb of Tampere, Finland.
